Ultra-Low NOx Water Heaters Recalled
The Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) recently issued a recall of the AO Smith Ultra-Low NOx Water Heater. This recall includes 30, 40 and 50 gallon natural or propane gas-fired Ultra-Low NOx emission gas water heaters
The Hazard
The primary concern, according to the CPSC, is a default in the water heater’s gas burner screen. The screen is susceptible to developing tears. When this happens, the water heater’s burner can then create excess radiant heat, posing a fire hazard if the water heater is installed directly on a wood or other combustible floor.

The recall was announced on November 8, 201 8 via press release and affects approximately 616,000 water heater units produced between 2011 and 2016.
What To Do
Consumers can look up their water heater’s serial number to see if it is affected by this recall at www.waterheaterrecall.com. If you own this model water heater, please visit the recall website, and input your model and serial number to determine if your appliance is subject to the recall.
If you believe your water heater is affected, please turn off the appliance immediately and visit the water heater recall website.
